Setting Up Shipping Labels

Shipping labels can be printed via third-party labeling software. The currently supported application is BarTender. When printing labels, a comma-delimited text file is output. The file contains data for each package or pallet label being printed.

For information on package and pallet label formatting, see Package Label Output Format and Pallet Label Output Format.

To set up shipping labels:

  1. Define the label in External Interface Maintenance. To do this, perform the following substeps:

    1. Enter the label file name in the Interface Name field (with the .btw extension).

    2. Click the Lookup button to the right of the Interface Type field, and select Label.

    3. Enter the full path of the folder to which Apprise exports the text file containing the label data in the Export File Path field. The file name for each label is generated with a sequential number to prevent file contention issues.

    4. Enter the location of the label file in the Label Path field or if you want to use the default path for the system ID, leave the field blank.

    5. Enter the logical name of the data source in the Label File Data Source field (the alias in BarTender).

    6. If you want users to select a label printer each time labels are printed, select the Display Label Printer Selection check box.

    7. Select one of the Overflow Option radio buttons to determine how specific product information is printed on labels.

    8. Enter the maximum number of products for each label in the Max. # of Products per Label field.

  2. Define which label to use in Customer Maintenance or EDI Trading Partner Maintenance. The name must match the label file name, including the file extension (such as shiplabel.btw). The software looks for a pallet or shipping label format, using the following hierarchy:

NOTE The format in Zone Maintenance is only used if the Yes or Zone Based radio button is selected in the Create Default Packages at Pick Demand Create radio set for the customer in Customer Maintenance.

  1. If you want users to select a label printer each time labels are printed, set up label printers in Label Printer Control Maintenance. If you do not set up label printers, labels are printed to the printer defined in the label file or the Windows default printer.
