A bill of material is a record that describes detailed information about the manufacture of a product or the assembly of a kit.
Each bill of material for a manufactured product can include the following:
Routing instructions that list operations required for the manufacturing process, work centers in which the operations are performed, and the sequence in which the operations are performed.
Detailed component product usage information for each operation, including any scrap quantities and bin requirements.
Detailed cost category information for each operation, including labor rates, overhead rates, and time requirements.
Step-by-step instructions for each operation in the manufacturing process, including optional file attachments, such as diagrams and illustrations.
General information, such as a status, backorder priority, and associated general ledger project number.
Note Bills of material for kits include most of the above information, but with several exceptions. Cost categories and operations are not tracked for bills of material for fixed kits. Operations are not tracked for bills of material for configuration kits.
