Velocity refers to how fast products and their relevant units of measure turn over in the warehouse; for example, fast movers vs. slow movers. Fast moving product/units of measure should be stored in fast moving bins for picking efficiency (bins that are convenient and easily accessible). Velocity codes are used to distinguish these turnover groupings of product/unit of measure and bins. Products/units of measure and bins with the same velocity codes are matched up during automatic putaway processes to help ensure maximum picking efficiency.
