New Product Code Assignment Utility
Change the code of existing products.
Use New Product Code Assignment Utility to quickly change the product code for products. You cannot change the product code in Product Maintenance. You must use this utility to change product codes. This utility uses an import file to change the product codes.
Note Back up your database before using this utility. If you are changing a large number of product codes, the utility may require a significant amount of time to complete the update.
If the import file format is not correct, the import will not complete.
You can import from the following file types:
Excel (.xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, or .xlsb)
comma-separated list (.csv)
text (.txt)
data (.dat)
Note To import a .csv file, enter your data in Excel, and then save the worksheet as a .csv file. Each field in a .txt or .dat file must be separated by a caret (^) character. There should be no spaces between each field in a .csv, .txt, or .dat file.
To change the product code for products:
Create an import file, which has two columns for each product code you want to change: The old product code and the new product code. For example, if you want to change product code 101 to 100101 and product code 102 to 100102, and are using a .txt import file, the file should be as follows:
101^100101
102^100102
Select whether you want to validate and import the file, or only validate the file.
Enter the folder path and product change import file name in the Product Change File Name field.
Click the Print Options tab, and select output options for the import report.
Click the Import button in the ribbon to start the import and/or validation process. The Importing dialog box appears. The Current Status field displays the status of the import, including any error messages.
