Purpose

Set up and maintain product synonyms.

Overview

Use Product Synonym Maintenance to create and delete synonyms related to products. This is used when entering or importing orders. If you enter the synonym code when creating an order, the software converts it automatically to the cross-referenced product code. You can also import product synonyms in Product Synonym Import.

Creating Product Synonyms

To create a product synonym:

Enter a product code or name for which you want to create a synonym.
Click the New button in the ribbon.
Enter the product synonym code in the Synonym Code field.
Enter the product synonym name in the Name field on the Main tab.
Click the OK button in the ribbon. The product synonym is created.

Ribbon Home Tab Buttons

Button	Description
Exit	Click this button to close the Product Synonym Maintenance window.
New	Click this button to create a new product synonym.
Delete	Click this button to delete the selected product synonym. To select a product synonym, double-click it in the Existing Synonyms grid.
OK	Click this button to accept an action. This button is only available after you click the New or Delete button in the ribbon.
Cancel	Click this button to cancel an action. This button is only available after you click the New or Delete button in the ribbon.
First	Click this button to display the first product.
Prev	Click this button to display the previous product.
Next	Click this button to display the next product.
Last	Click this button to display the last product.

Fields and Buttons

Field or Button	Description
Product Code	Enter a product code for which to define synonyms, or click the Lookup button to select a product code.
Name (Product)	Enter a product name for which to define synonyms, or click the Lookup button to select a product name.

Main Tab Fields and Buttons

Field or Button	Description
Synonym Code	Enter a synonym code. Note This is typically a code used by other parties to identify this same product. Example You have a competitor’s product list, and want your customers to have the option of giving you the competitor’s product code and having it automatically converted to your product code.
Name (Synonym)	Enter a synonym name.
Existing Synonyms	This grid displays all synonyms for the selected product. To delete a synonym, double-click it in the grid to select it, and then click the Delete button in the ribbon.
