Purpose

Substitute products for a selected base product.

Overview

Use Substitute Product Maintenance to define products that can be substituted for products being ordered in Order Entry. Products that are substitutes for an ordered product can be selected and ordered if the original product is out of stock.

Example If you order some blue shirts, white shirts might be set up as a substitute product.

You can also import substitute products in Substitute Product Import.

Setting Up Substitute Products

To set up a substitute product:

Enter a base product code in the Base Product field.
Click the Add button in the ribbon.
Enter the substitute product code in the Substitute Product field.
If you want the product code you entered in step 1 to also be the substitute product for the product code you entered in step 3, leave the Create Reverse Substitute Product check box selected. If you do not want to do this, clear the check box.
Click the OK button in the ribbon. The substitute product is added.

Ribbon Home Tab Buttons

Button	Description
Exit	Click this button to close the Substitute Product Maintenance window.
Delete	Click this button to delete the selected substitute product. To select a product, double-click it in the Existing Substitute Products grid.
Add	Click this button to add a substitute product for the selected product.
OK	Click this button to accept an action. This button is only available after you click the Add or Delete button in the ribbon.
Cancel	Click this button to cancel an action. This button is only available after you click the Add or Delete button in the ribbon.
First	Click this button to display the first product.
Prev	Click this button to display the previous product.
Next	Click this button to display the next product.
Last	Click this button to display the last product.

Fields and Buttons

Field or Button	Description
Base Product	Enter a product code for which to define substitute products, or click the Lookup button to select a product code.
Name (Base Product)	Enter a product name for which to define substitute products, or click the Lookup button to select a product name.

Main Tab Fields and Buttons

Field or Button	Description
Substitute Product	Enter the substitute product code, or click the Lookup button to select a substitute product code.
Name (Substitute Product)	Enter the substitute product name, or click the Lookup button to select a substitute product name.
Create Reverse Substitute Product	Select this check box if you want the product entered in the Base Product field to also be a substitute for the product entered in the Substitute Product field.
Existing Substitute Products	This grid displays all substitute products for the selected product. To delete a substitute product, double-click it in the grid to select it, and then click the Delete button in the ribbon.
