Purpose

Set up and maintain shipping container types.

Overview

Use Container Type Maintenance to create, edit, delete, and view container types. Containers are assigned a specific container type to describe the characteristics and size of the container. You can use container types with the Goal Seek feature to optimize purchasing. For information on using the Goal Seek feature, see Using Goal Seek.

Creating a New Container Type

To create a new container type:

  1. Click the New button in the ribbon.

  2. Enter a code for the container type in the Container Type Code field.

  3. Enter a description of the container type in the Description field.

  4. Enter the dimensions and specifications of containers in the container type.

  5. Click the OK button in the ribbon. The container type is created.

Click this button to close the Container Type Maintenance window.

New

Click this button to create a new container type.

Update

Click this button to update the selected container type.

Delete

Click this button to delete the selected container type.

OK

Click this button to accept an action. This button is only available after you click the New, Update, or Delete button in the ribbon.

Cancel

Click this button to cancel an action. This button is only available after you click the New, Update, or Delete button in the ribbon.

First

Click this button to display the first container type.

Prev

Click this button to display the previous container type.

Next

Click this button to display the next container type.

Last

Click this button to display the last container type.

Fields and Buttons

Field or Button

Description

Container Type Code

Enter a code for the container type, or click the Lookup button to select an existing container type code.

Description

Enter a brief description of the container type.

Active

Select this check box if the container type is active.

Long Description

Enter a detailed description of the container type.

Length

Enter the length of containers of this container type in the unit of measure entered in the Dimensional U/M field.

Height

Enter the height of containers of this container type in the unit of measure entered in the Dimensional U/M field.

Width

Enter the width of containers of this container type in the unit of measure entered in the Dimensional U/M field.

Diameter

Enter the diameter of containers of this container type in the unit of measure entered in the Dimensional U/M field.

Dimensional U/M

Enter the unit of measure for the Length, Height, Width, and Diameter fields, or click the Lookup button to select a unit of measure.

Minimum Weight

Enter the minimum weight that can be stored in containers of this container type in the unit of measure entered in the Weight U/M field.

Maximum Weight

Enter the maximum weight that can be stored in containers of this container type in the unit of measure entered in the Weight U/M field.

Weight U/M

Enter the unit of measure for the Maximum Weight and Minimum Weight fields, or click the Lookup button to select a unit of measure.

Minimum Cube

Enter the minimum volume that can be stored in containers of this container type in the unit of measure entered in the Cube U/M field.

Maximum Cube

Enter the maximum volume that can be stored in containers of this container type in the unit of measure entered in the Cube U/M field.

Cube U/M

Enter the unit of measure for the Minimum Cube and Maximum Cube fields, or click the Lookup button to select a unit of measure.

Minimum Units

Enter the minimum quantity of product units that can be stored in containers of this container type.

Maximum Units

Enter the maximum quantity of product units that can be stored in containers of this container type.

Validate minimum weight

Click the Lookup button and select one of the following options for handling what occurs if a container of the container type is not filled to the minimum weight:

  • Error - Display an error message.

  • None - Do nothing.

  • Warn - Display a warning message.

Validate maximum weight

Click the Lookup button and select one of the following options for handling what occurs if a container of the container type is filled over the maximum weight:

  • Error - Display an error message.

  • None - Do nothing.

  • Warn - Display a warning message.

Validate minimum cube

Click the Lookup button and select one of the following options for handling what occurs if a container of the container type is not filled to the minimum volume:

  • Error - Display an error message.

  • None - Do nothing.

  • Warn - Display a warning message.

Validate maximum cube

Click the Lookup button and select one of the following options for handling what occurs if a container of the container type is filled over the maximum volume:

  • Error - Display an error message.

  • None - Do nothing.

  • Warn - Display a warning message.

Validate minimum units

Click the Lookup button and select one of the following options for handling what occurs if a container of the container type is not filled with the minimum number of units:

  • Error - Display an error message.

  • None - Do nothing.

  • Warn - Display a warning message.

Validate maximum units

Click the Lookup button and select one of the following options for handling what occurs if a container of the container type is filled with more than the maximum number of units:

  • Error - Display an error message.

  • None - Do nothing.

  • Warn - Display a warning message.

Case Material

Enter the material of containers of this container type.

Refrigerated

Select this check box if containers of this container type are refrigerated.

EMI/RFI Shielded

Select this check box if containers of this container type are shielded to protect from electromagnetic and radio frequency interference.

Insulated

Select this check box if containers of this container type are insulated.

Stackable

Select this check box if containers of this container type can be stacked.

Handles

Select this check box if containers of this container type have handles.

Open Top

Select this check box if containers of this container type have an open top.

Wheels

Select this check box if containers of this container type have wheels.
