Harmonization Codes

Harmonization codes are a set of codes describing the statistical information supplied for customs entry and withdrawal forms or electronic filings for products imported into the United States. These codes are designed to enable importers, customs brokers, and customs officers to determine the classification and rates of duty applicable to imported products, and the requirements for reporting statistical data for the imports.

These codes are outlined in the Harmonization Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS) assigned by the U.S. Department of Treasury's Committee for Statistical Annotation of Tariff Schedules. Harmonization codes are defined for commodities or groups of products, as well as country codes that are defined in the International Standard Country Codes section of the HTS.

Harmonization codes are defined and maintained in Harmonization Code Maintenance. Products are assigned to harmonization codes in Product Maintenance. Countries and rates are associated with harmonization codes in Purchase Automatic Additional Charge Maintenance.
