A promise date is the date by which an order's line item that is on backorder can be filled.
During order processing, if a product is not available at the specified location, a message appears asking if you want to select a different location. If you click the No button, a promise date may be calculated automatically, or a second message may appear asking whether you want to calculate a promise date. The Backorder Promise Date option in Customer Service Control Maintenance controls whether a promise date is automatically calculated.
You can use Promise Date Calculation to determine a promise date based on pending order summary information, which can include customer orders, purchase orders, work orders, external orders, and warehouse transfers (both incoming and outgoing transfers).
