The UPC is the Universal Product Code for a product. In Apprise, you can set up a UPC for a product, a specific unit of measure for a product, a specific unit of measure for a product/location, or a customer product. If all four are set up, the system uses the following hierarchy for package and pallet labels:
Customer Product UPC
Product/Location Unit of Measure UPC
Product Unit of Measure UPC
Product UPC
The UPC can be manually entered or generated automatically for products. If it is generated automatically, it can be 12 or 13 digits. If it is 12 digits, it includes the following:
1-digit Number System Character (NSC) (entered in the UPC Number System Character and Manufacturer Code field in Warehouse Management Control Maintenance)
5-digit manufacturer code (entered in the UPC Number System Character and Manufacturer Code field in Warehouse Management Control Maintenance)
5-digit sequential value for the product (if you are using the Product Lifecycle Management module to generate UPC's, this value may be entered for a task or may be a product project code depending on the Item Code Generation option selected in Warehouse Management Control Maintenance)
1-digit check digit
If it is 13 digits, it includes the following:
2 or 3-digit GS1 prefix (entered in the UPC Number System Character and Manufacturer Code field in Warehouse Management Control Maintenance)
4 to 7-digit manufacturer code (entered in the UPC Number System Character and Manufacturer Code field in Warehouse Management Control Maintenance)
2 to 5-digit sequential value for the product (if you are using the Product Lifecycle Management module to generate UPC's, this value may be entered for a task or may be a product project code depending on the Item Code Generation option selected in Warehouse Management Control Maintenance)
1-digit check digit
To set up automatic UPC generation for products:
In Warehouse Management Control Maintenance, select the Automatic UPC Generation check box on the UPC/GTIN tab.
Enter the length of the UPC in the UPC Code Length field.
In the UPC Number System Character and Manufacturer Code field, enter the appropriate data (described above for each code length).
If you use the Product Lifecycle Management module, and want to generate UPC's from it, select an Item Code Generation option to control how the 5-digit sequential values are entered or generated. If you select the Task option, also enter a task in which these values will be entered in the Item Code Generation Task field. To display the UPC for a product in a field for a task, enter the task in the Simple UPC Code Task field. To display the UPC for multiple units of measure for a task, enter the grid task in the Unit of Measure Grid Task field. The grid task must contain columns with the following column labels: UM Code, UPC, and GTIN. If the grid task also contains a column for manually overriding the UPC 5-digit sequential value for product units of measure, enter the column ID value in the Item Override Code Column field.
Note All tasks must be associated with the Product Project workflow type and the Product workflow level.
To automatically generate a single UPC for a single unit of measure product, select the Generate UPC check box on the General tab in Product Maintenance.
To automatically generate multiple UPC's for each unit of measure associated with a multiple unit of measure product, select the Generate UPC at U/M Level check box on the General tab in Product Maintenance.
To automatically generate UPC's in the Product Lifecycle Management module, enter a 5-digit sequential value in the field or grid column for the appropriate task (if necessary), then click the Auto Generate UPC/GTIN button in the ribbon in Lifecycle Data Entry.
