Purpose

Set up product lifecycle management rules.

Overview

Use Lifecycle Rule Maintenance to create, edit, and delete workflow definition, team, or alert rules. You can also set up the hierarchy of the rules. For information on creating rules, see Creating Product Lifecycle Management Rules.

Ribbon Home Tab Buttons

Button

Description

Exit

Click this button to close the Lifecycle Rule Maintenance window.

New

Click this button to display Lifecycle Rule Entry, which allows you to create a new rule.

Update

Click this button to display Lifecycle Rule Entry, which allows you to update the selected rule.

Delete

Click this button to delete the selected rule.

OK

Click this button to accept an action. This button is only available after you click the Update Sequence or Delete button in the ribbon.

Cancel

Click this button to cancel an action. This button is only available after you click the Update Sequence or Delete button in the ribbon.

Attachments

Click this button to display Attachment Entry, which allows you to view and enter attachments for a selected product lifecycle management rule. The icon for this button includes a check mark if attachments exist for the selected rule.

Notes

Click this button to display Notes Entry, which allows you to view and enter notes for a selected product lifecycle management rule. The icon for this button includes a check mark if notes exist for the selected rule.

Update Sequence

Click this button to update the sequence that controls the hierarchy of rules. After you click this button, you can select a rule, and then click the up or down arrow buttons to move the rule up or down in the hierarchy.

Main Tab Fields and Buttons

Field or Button

Description

Rule Type

Select a rule type for the rules you want to view, create, edit, or delete. You can select one of the following rule types:

  • Workflow - Rules for following workflow definitions based on specific criteria

  • Team - Rules for assigning tasks to product lifecycle management teams based on specific criteria

  • Alert - Rules for creating alerts based on specific criteria

Effective Dates

Select the effective dates for which you want to view, edit, or delete rules.

Status

Select a status for which you want to view, edit, or delete rules.

Workflow Type

Enter a workflow type for which you want to view, create, edit, or delete rules, or click the Lookup button to select a workflow type.

Workflow Level

Enter a workflow level for which you want to view, create, edit, or delete rules, or click the Lookup button to select a workflow level.

Rules

This grid displays rules for the selected rule type. You can click the up and down arrow buttons at the right of the grid to change the hierarchy of rules after you click the Update Sequence button in the ribbon. Rules that appear higher in the grid take precedence over rules that are lower. Double-click a rule to display Lifecycle Rule Entry, which allows you to edit the rule. Double-click List in any cell to display Lifecycle Rule Values, which allows you to view values for a product lifecycle management rule.

Click this button to move a rule up in the rule hierarchy that determines how rules are applied. This button is only enabled after you click the Update Sequence button in the ribbon.

Click this button to move a rule down in the rule hierarchy that determines how rules are applied. This button is only enabled after you click the Update Sequence button in the ribbon.
