You can ship orders free of freight charges for the full order, or for specific line items on an order.
Assigning a customer as freight free: If a specific customer is not to be considered for freight calculations, that customer can be defined as a freight-free customer. To define a freight-free customer, edit the customer in Customer Maintenance, and on the Options tab select the Orders Default as Freight Free check box. If this check box is selected, the Freight Free check box is selected by default on the Main tab in Order Entry when an order is created for this customer. Also, on the Items tab in Order Entry, the Freight Free check box is selected for all ordered line items.
NOTE The customer setting may be overridden by the freight free setting for the order class or freight collection terms on an order. The Freight Free check box on the Items tab in Order Entry can also be selected based on the price matrix of the ordered item if the matrix is set up as freight free.
Freight free or partial freight free order: If you do not want to maintain a freight free status for a specific order, or want to incur freight charges on certain items only, clear the Freight Free check box on the Main tab in Order Entry. This should be done at the start of order processing (before any line items have been entered). This will clear the Freight Free check box for each line item added to the order. If the Freight Free check box on the Main tab is selected or cleared after lines have been entered, only the lines that were not overridden during line item entry are changed. To allocate specific line items with freight charges, select the Freight Free check box in O/E Line Item Entry. If you select or clear the Freight Free check box in O/E Line Item Entry, any subsequent change to the Freight Free check box on the Main tab does not override the line item freight free settings.
Calculating partial freight: You can enter partial freight charges on the Additional Charges tab in Order Entry or in Additional Charge Entry for each line item. In Order Entry, you can click the Freight button, which performs freight calculations based on rules defined in the Shipping and Delivery Logistics menu (where shipper rate calculation tables are defined). Using the Additional Charges tab allows you to create calculations for every line item that is not set as freight free. Using the Add Charges button at the line item level calculates freight for the highlighted line item only; therefore, this would be done for each line item that is not freight free.
NOTE To use freight calculations, you must enable the Use Automatic Freight Calculations check box on the Order Entry tab in Customer Service Control Maintenance. You must also define and maintain various freight calculation tables within the Shipping and Delivery Logistics menu (Warehouse Management module). These tables associate shipper ID's with their shipping zones, weight limitations, and shipping rates.
