A location generally refers to a physical warehouse where buying, selling, shipping, and stocking of products is done, although certain locations are only set up for sales and pricing purposes. A location code may also be referred to as a location ID or location prefix. The latter is because the location code is often used as a prefix for reference numbers, such as sales order numbers.
