Sales Location / Shipping Location

Locations are defined and maintained in Location Maintenance. You can define locations as only sales locations, only shipping locations, or both sales and shipping locations.

The table below lists the attributes of sales and shipping locations.

Sales Location

Shipping Location (also known as a Warehouse Location)

The sales location is the facility where sales efforts are maintained.

The shipping location is the facility from which products are shipped.

The sales location may differ from the shipping location if the facility where sales efforts are generated differs from the facility where products are shipped.

The shipping location may differ from the sales location if the facility from which products are shipped differs from the facility in which sales efforts are maintained.

You can assign a user default sales location in User Extended Options. This will default in Order Entry. However, if the Use Customer Location for option is Both or Sales in Accounts Receivable Control Maintenance, the sales location for the customer overrides the user default sales location. The sales location for the customer is entered on the Sales tab in Customer Maintenance.

You can assign a user default shipping location in User Extended Options. This will default in Order Entry. However, if the Use Customer Location for option is Both or Shipping in Accounts Receivable Control Maintenance, the shipping location for the customer overrides the user default shipping location. The shipping location for the customer is entered on the Sales tab in Customer Maintenance.

All types of orders generated in Order Entry use the location prefix of the sales location.

Pick demands are generated based on order shipping locations. Pick demand numbers use this location prefix.

The sales location is used for pricing.

Inventory allocations for backorders and future allocations use this location. (Includes all of the programs in the Allocations menu of the Warehouse Management module).

For EDI transactions, the sales location defaults from the trading partner, as set up in EDI Trading Partner Maintenance.

For EDI transactions, the shipping location defaults from the trading partner, as set up in EDI Trading Partner Maintenance.

 

The shipping location is also referred to as the stocking location in some windows.

 

Costs for warehouse transfer purchase orders are derived from the product location of the order entry transfer order’s shipping location.
