Set up and maintain excise tax categories.
Use Excise Tax Category Maintenance to create, edit, and delete excise tax categories, which are groups of products for excise tax reporting. You can set up state-specific reporting and tax rules for each excise tax category. This information can be used for reporting or if state-specific unit volume tax rates need to be defined.
You can assign products to excise tax categories in Product Maintenance. For more information, see Setting Up Excise Taxes.
To create an excise tax category:
Click the New button in the ribbon.
Enter a code for the excise tax category in the Excise Tax Category field.
Enter a description of the excise tax category in the Description field.
Enter state tax rule information for the excise tax category, and then click the right arrow button. Repeat for each state, as necessary.
Click the OK button in the ribbon. The excise tax category is created.

Click this button to delete the selected excise tax category. You cannot delete an excise tax category if a product is associated with it. This button is only available if the Main tab is displayed. |

Click this button to accept an action. This button is only available after you click the New, Update, or Delete button in the ribbon, or if this window appeared after you changed a date. |
Cancel |
Click this button to cancel an action. This button is only available after you click the New, Update, or Delete button in the ribbon. |

Click this button to display excise tax categories on the Inquiry tab. This button is only available if the Inquiry tab is displayed. |
First |
Click this button to display the first excise tax category. This button is only available if the Main tab is displayed. |

Click this button to display the previous excise tax category. This button is only available if the Main tab is displayed. |
Next |
Click this button to display the next excise tax category. This button is only available if the Main tab is displayed. |

Enter the maximum alcohol content for the excise tax category rule (if the rule is for an alcoholic beverage). |

Enter the label for the excise tax category rule to display on the output gallonage reports. This label appears as a column heading on the report for beverages that meet the alcohol content requirements and state/country for this rule. For more information on these report, see Sales Gallonage Report and Receipts Gallonage Report. |

Enter a per volume additional charge amount for the excise tax category rule. |

Enter a valid charge volume unit of measure for the excise tax category rule. |

Select whether the charge for the excise tax category rule is based on a product weight or volume of alcohol. If you enter a weight unit of measure in the Charge Basis U/M field, this radio set is disabled, and the Product radio button is selected. |

Click this button to add the rule to the excise tax category. |
|
Click this button to remove the selected rule from the excise tax category. |

This grid displays state tax rule information for the excise tax category. |
NOTE This tab is disabled if you are creating, editing, or deleting an excise tax category.
