Menu Path: System Administration Imports Products Product Import
Import products from an external file.
Import product locations from an external file.
Use Product Import to import product information. This import will create the product, the product location, and the product unit of measure records. The import also creates a supplier product record for a product if the import file includes both a primary supplier and any supplier product information.
For import format information, see Product Import Format.
To import products:
Select whether you want to validate and import valid data from a file, validate and import all data from a file if it is all valid, or only validate data in a file.
Enter or select the product import file.
Click the Print Options tab, and select output options for the import report.
Click the Import or Validate button in the ribbon to start the import and/or validation process. The Importing dialog box appears. The Current Status field displays the status of the import, including any error messages.
After you import products, you can use Product Import to import the products to additional locations. To do this, make a copy of the original import file, change the location for the products in the import file, and perform the import again.
Example You imported a new product into location PA. You now want to add the product to location NY. To do this, copy the import file, replace the location PA with NY in the import file (position 3), and then reimport the file.
You can also use Product Location Copy Utility to copy a product from one location to another.
To import product units of measure, use Product Unit of Measure Import.
If the import file format is not correct, the import is not completed.
Note All imports are based on the stocking unit of measure.
You can import from the following file types:
Excel (.xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, or .xlsb)
Note If you import from an Excel workbook that contains multiple worksheets, data is only imported from the first worksheet in the workbook.
comma-separated list (.csv)
text (.txt)
data (.dat)
Note To import a .csv file, enter your data in Excel, and then save the worksheet as a .csv file. Each field in a .txt or .dat file must be separated by a caret (^) character. There should be no spaces between each field in a .csv, .txt, or .dat file.
