Cross-Dock

A cross-dock bin is used when products being received will fill backorders without being put away into regular bins. Thus, the cross-dock bin is used as a temporary picking bin. The cross-dock bin should be adjacent to the shipping dock for quick access.

Setting Up Cross-Dock Bins

To set up a cross-dock bin:

  1. In Bin Maintenance, create a bin and select the Cross Dock Bin check box. This identifies the bin as a cross-dock bin and makes the bin available for cross-dock bin selection in Dock Maintenance.

  2. In Dock Maintenance, edit the shipping dock adjacent to the cross-dock bin, and enter the cross-dock bin in the Cross Dock Bin field.

  3. In Product Location Maintenance, select the Cross Dock Allowed check box on the Warehouse tab for all products that will be put in the cross-dock bin. If this check box is not selected, the process will not work.

Processing with Cross-Dock Bins

Received products can be put away to a cross-dock bin to enable immediate and convenient picking. During the receiving process, you must manually select to put away a quantity of the product into the cross-dock bin.

When pick demands are generated in Pick Demand Create and Print, the software looks first for a cross-dock bin and then to the regular pick bins, and generates pick demands accordingly.
