Menu Path: Warehouse Management Module Setup Locations Bin Maintenance
Define a bin in a location, and optionally assign it to a zone.
Assign sequence numbers to create the most efficient pick path in a warehouse location.
Use Bin Maintenance to define bins. Bins always must be associated with a location, and optionally can be associated with a zone.
Bins can be differentiated to hold only raw materials, such as back-flush bins, for storing damaged goods only, such as not available bins (products do not get picked from not available bins), or used by more than one dock for shipping, such as cross-dock bins.
Products are stored and picked by their bins and their zones and inventory can be tracked at the bin level. Product records can contain bin information such as their putaway bin (bins used for storing received goods), pick bin (bins used in picking goods for shipments), and backflush bin (bins that contain raw materials for manufacturing).
Bin information is required when receiving in goods, shipping out goods, receiving returned merchandise into inventory, replenishing bins, performing various queries, and generating reports.
You can also import bins in Bin Import or import changes to bins in Bin Change Import.

Click the Lookup button to select one of the following if the bin is marked as not available:
This Lookup button is only enabled if the Not Available Bin check box is selected. |
Enter a detailed description of the bin. |
Select this check box to make the quantity in this bin unavailable for picking or replenishment. Note This option is often selected for a bin that stores product returns. Since there often is uncertainty about the salability of returned products, putting them in a not available bin keeps them under control, but unavailable for sales allocation or picking. Note A bin can only be turned into a not available bin if there are no quantities currently in it. |
Select this check box to have pick demand creation first pick from this bin, regardless of the unit of measure required. Typically, this is used for a high velocity product that is temporarily staged in a speed bin to facilitate an efficient pick. |
Select this check box to mark this bin as one that can be used when picking or moving products. |
Select this check box to use cross-dock features, and to make this bin available for cross dock selection in Dock Maintenance. |
Select this check box to prevent any inventory in this bin from being allocated during pick demand printing. If this check box is selected, the Not Available Bin check box is automatically selected. You can only select this check box if there is no quantity available in this bin. This check box works in conjunction with the Manufacturing module and the use of backflush bins when completing work orders. |
Select this check box to have this bin ignored during pick demand creation. Products can be taken out of this bin for work order creation or bin replenishment. |
Select this check box to mark this bin as having a potential inventory count discrepancy. |
Select this check box to allow products in this bin to be broken down to smaller units of measure or built up to larger units of measure. Example If there is a pallet unit of measure of product stored on a high, out-of-the-way bin, you may not want a picker to pick in an each unit of measure from it. |
Select this check box to mark this bin as only to be used for staging. |
Select this check box to mark this bin as only to be used for a Wireless Warehouse user as a temporary bin when picking or moving products. Note You cannot pick products if user bins with the same name are defined in multiple locations. Therefore, if you select this check box, verify the bin has a unique name that is not used in multiple locations. |
Select this check box if you do not want to allow component products to be issued from this bin when issuing material for manufacturing. |
Select this check box if the bin is used for the pending receipt process. If this check box is selected, the bin will only store inventory for containers and purchase orders that are in the process of being received and put away. If you select this check box, the Do Not Pick from This Bin and Do Not Issue Material check boxes are automatically selected. This check box is cleared by default. |
Enter a bin cycle count group for the bin, or click the Lookup button to select a bin cycle count group. You can use bin cycle count groups to group together similar bins in the same zone or sales location / shipping location for Wireless Warehouse cycle counting. For more information, see Bin Cycle Count Group Maintenance. |
