Profile Manager

Menu Path: None

To use Profile Manager, click the New or Update toolbar button in Connection Profile Manager.

Purpose

Create and update connection profiles.

Overview

Use Profile Manager to define connection profiles. Connection profiles are used to configure the parameters for connecting to Apprise. For each connection profile, you can enter a name and short description. You can also enter variables that configure your connection.

Note To delete a variable, click the box at the left of the row, and press the Delete key.

The following table summarizes the valid variables you can use.

Variable Name

Value

Information

-ADVERIFY

Use this variable to allow Active Directory login users to log into Apprise with their Windows domain user names and passwords. For information on setting up Active Directory login for users, see User Profile Maintenance.

If you select this option, users have the following three Login Type options when they log into Apprise:

  • Active Directory - Automatically log in using your Windows domain user name and password.

  • Active Directory - Manual - Manually log in using any Windows domain user name and password for which an Apprise user is set up.

  • Manual - Manually log in using an Apprise user name and password.

-ADAUTOLOGIN

Use this variable to allow Active Directory login users to automatically log into Apprise without entering a user name or password. For information on setting up Active Directory login for users, see User Profile Maintenance.

NOTE Do not use the -ADVERIFY variable if use the -ADAUTOLOGIN variable. If both variables are used, the -ADAUTOLOGIN variable is ignored.

-ALTERNATEOUTLOOKMAIL

Use this variable only if email sent via Outlook remains in the Outbox.

-APPSERVER1-10

AppServer://[appserver path]

You can enter up to ten appserver variables (APPSERVER1, APPSERVER2, etc.) if your company uses multiple appservers. Using this variable enables failover capability so you can continue working even if one of the appservers fails. If you only use one appserver, you only need to use the APPSERVER1 variable.

Note Performance may decrease if you are not connecting to the appserver for the first appserver value. If an appserver is not functioning for a prolonged period of time, remove the variable for it.

-ASYNCREPORTS

This variable allows you to run custom reports that use Crystal Reports in asynchronous mode. If you enter this variable, you can continue working in Apprise at the same time as you run custom reports.

-EXCELXLS

Use this variable only if you want to export data from Apprise to Excel in .xls files (for Excel 97-2003). If this variable is not entered, data is exported as .xlsx files.

-ICON

[color]

You can enter one of the following:

  • Black

  • Blue

  • Gold

  • Green

  • Purple

  • Red

This variable controls the color of the icon in the Windows taskbar for Apprise windows (except for the Main Menu window, which is controlled by the MENUICON variable). This variable is useful if you are using multiple versions of Apprise at the same time and want to visually distinguish the taskbar icons between the versions.

-MAPPOINTEUROPE

This variable allows you to integrate with the European version of Microsoft MapPoint. For information on using MapPoint in Apprise, see Stop Selection Map.

-MENUICON

[color]

You can enter one of the following:

  • Black

  • Blue

  • Gold

  • Green

  • Purple

  • Red

This variable controls the color of the icon in the Windows taskbar for the Apprise Main Menu window. This variable is useful if you are using multiple versions of Apprise at the same time and want to visually distinguish the taskbar icons between the versions.

-PROCEDURE

ext-prcs.r

You can use this variable to automatically run Scheduling Assistant without user intervention. This is useful if you want Scheduling Assistant to automatically start, and you have edited the registry and/or set up a scheduled task to start Apprise.

If you use this variable, you should also use the following variables to automatically log into Apprise:

  • USER - For this variable, enter the username used for Scheduling Assistant as the value.

  • PASSWORD - For this variable, enter the password used for Scheduling Assistant as the value.

  • AUTOLOGIN

NOTE Only use these three variables on a system used for Scheduling Assistant, which is set up by a system administrator. The username and password in the connection profile are not protected, and the system administrator should ensure that the credentials are secured as appropriate.

-REDUCEVISUALS

Use this variable only if you want to reduce visual effects. No value is required for this variable. If you enter this variable, animations are not displayed.

If you are connecting to a terminal server, visual effects can slow down your system due to bandwidth constraints. You may want to reduce visual effects to improve performance.

–REPORTSDIR

[path]

Use this variable to specify the location of the report temporary folder that is used to cache reports. If you do not use this variable, a subfolder in C:\Windows\Temp is used as the temporary folder. The first time a report is output, it is cached to the temporary folder if it does not exist in the user's report working folder.

Note A user-specific working folder for reports can be set up in User Profile Maintenance. If a report exists in a user's working folder, then it is not cached in the temporary folder.

For more information on the report temporary folder, see Crystal Reports FAQ.

-SUPPRESSMSGALL

Use this variable to display all system messages (Information, Warning, and Error messages) in a message bar at the bottom of the displayed window. If this variable is not used, only Information messages appear at the bottom of the displayed window. The message bar can be closed by clicking it.

-UNSUPPRESSMSG

Use this variable to display system messages in an Information dialog box instead of in a message bar at the bottom of the displayed window.
