Question: What are configuration kits and how are they used?
Answer: A configuration kit is used to build a kit on-the-fly from a pre-determined grouping of products. The price is a summation of the individual products selected.
Example A configuration kit is defined for a shaving kit. It is comprised of one tube of shaving gel (of brand X or Y), two cans of shaving cream (of brand X, Y, or Z), and one razor (of brand X or Y). During order entry, the choices of brand are made.
To set up configuration kits, perform the following steps:
In Product Maintenance, select the Kit Item check box and Config. Kit radio button on the Warehouse tab.
In Bill of Material Maintenance, click the Add Group button on the Components tab, and then add configuration groups with eligible products. Make sure the bill of material is marked as active.
To process orders for configuration kits, perform the following steps:
In Order Entry, when a line item is entered for a configuration kit product, the Configuration Kit Group Selection window appears automatically to allow you to select individual products from configuration groups.
Note Configuration kits cannot be included on transfer or consignment orders.
In Configuration Kit Work Order Create, select the configuration sales order lines to be converted into work orders. Every sales order line becomes a separate work order.
In Material Issue, issue materials and print the work order. Pick the products listed on the work order.
In Work Order Confirm, confirm the work order and adjust inventory. When inventory is adjusted, a pick demand is created for the configuration kit.
In Pick Demand Confirm, confirm the pick demand.
