Label Printing FAQ

Question: How do I set up to print shipping carton labels or pallet labels?

Answer: For label setup information, see below.

Shipping Label Setup

Before you print shipping labels, verify that the package unit of measure is entered for products that ship in the same case or carton used to store the products in the warehouse. The package unit of measure is entered for products on the Warehouse tab in Product Maintenance. This does not apply to products that are taken off the shelf and put into shipping cartons using advanced packaging (pick pack).

Shipping labels can be set up to print in different ways depending on the shipping process your company uses. The following sections describe setup for several common label printing methods.

Printing Labels When Confirming Pick Demands

To print shipping labels during pick demand confirmation, perform the following setup:

  1. In Location Maintenance, select the appropriate label printing option for the Print Package Labels radio set.

  2. In Zone Maintenance, select the appropriate label printing option in the Print Shipping Labels at Pick Demand Confirm field.

Printing Labels When Creating Pick Demands

To print shipping labels when creating pick demands, perform the following setup:

  1. In Zone Maintenance, select the Create Default Packages at Pick Demand Create check box for each zone in which you want to print labels. This causes the software to build package information in the pick demand using the package unit of measure. This package information is required for the shipping labels.

  2. In Zone Maintenance, click the Lookup button for the Print Pre-Created Labels at field, and select Pick Demand Print. This causes labels to print at the end of the pick demand creation process.

  3. In Customer Maintenance, select the Zone Based radio button in the Create Default Packages at Pick Demand Create radio set.

Note Only certain customers (mass merchants) may need to have packages/cartons for label purposes. Do not use this method if you are using advanced packaging. If any problems occur during the pick demand creation process, an alert is created. For more information, see Pick Alerts.
